Fleetwood White Finishes Regular Season Strong

Win over Kutztown Rays Clinches Third Seed for Playoffs

Kutztown, Pa. --- Fleetwood White exploded for a season-high 14 runs and seven pitchers combined to allow just four earned runs in a 14-6 win over the Kutztown Rays Saturday morning in East Penn League Junior Babe Ruth baseball action.

Max Grayek led a 10-hit effort for the Tigers going 2-for-3 with four RBI.   Grayek also picked up the win on the mound, allowing one unearned run in the fourth.  Shawn Fortna was 2-for-3 with an RBI and three runs scored for Fleetwood, while closing out the game on the mound with 1 2/3 innings of scoreless work.  Other top performers for Fleetwood included Jarrod Leibman (2-for-4, 1 run; 0 runs in one inning pitched), Evan Santos (3 runs scored), Noah Schaffer (1-for-2 with 2 runs scored), Robert Costello (2 runs scored; 0 runs in one inning pitched), and Sam Schappell (1-for-2, 2 runs scored, 3 stolen bases).

Defensively, the Tigers turned three double-plays.

With the win, Fleetwood White finished the season 4-5-1 and clinched the third seed in the upcoming double-elimination playoffs.  Fleetwood will host in-town rival and No. 6 seed Fleetwood Red (3-7) in the first round of the playoffs on Monday night at Willow Creek Field.  The winner will advance to play second-seeded Brandywine on Tuesday night in Mertztown, while the loser will wait to play the loser of Tuesday's game on Thursday night in an elimination game.
